Last Night I saved her from Vampires
- 29th May, 2009
I thought it was about time I did a little update on my current real world project, to build a fixed gear bike. Well since I last wrote about him (Jeffery infact), hes grown a little.
He has wheels! Found a bargin on ebay for a cheep set of new wheels. Not the best in the world, but perfect for a beginier. Hes also rollin’ on Purple Halo Twin Rail Courier Tyres. There pretty freekin sweet! There is also cheap headset, bars, grips floating about all waiting to be fitted. Im expecting inner tubes, stem, seat post and saddle this week, leaving only the drive chain remaing before its ride-able! (with single speed freewheel and front/rear breaks to be added over summer).
I had origianly planned for him to have only a front break, but after brushing up on my UK law, I need two breaks if I’m going freewheel. (You only need one if fixed, as that also counts as a break.)
As you may recall, the original plan was to go for a black/purple/green colour scheme. I ended up ditching this idea and focused on 2 colours. I think so far its looking good, and hoping to find some nice purple pedles and chain (maybe) to go with a black crankset and gold cog, just cos I can.
Once he’s all built up (hopefully within the next month and a half or so), he will soon be dismantled again to get some referibshiment. Turns out my father has been hankering to play with his new angle grinder, and I’ve always wanted to respray the frame and forks at somepoint. So for 3 weeks in summer we shall cutting, buffing, pre-coating and spraying poor Jeffery untill hes as good as new. The plan is to sand him back down to the original undercoat/metal work. From here we can cut off all the little knobbley bits that once guided gear cables, held pannnier racks and mud gards in a former life. Then once hes nice and smooth, build back up the undercoats and layers of black matt, all the way to clear coats. Ill also be looking to maybe getting some vinal decals on him, though I’m not sure what yet. Any ideas, send them my way.
Think thats about it. Hopefully the next time you see him he shall be finished!
