Something I got into in the middle of 2009 was ridding a fixed gear. I built one from scratch and called him Jeffery. Unfortunately he was 55 years old when I got him, and he quickly died. So in early 2010 I built a new bike, and his name is Patterson. His name comes from the coolest man on British Television, Patterson Joseph.
The new bike is a Surly Steamroller. Mines a 59cm, as finding the 62cm in this country is like trying to find something, that’s, well, really hard to find. I settled on a Steamroller for a few key reasons:
- By all accounts, its built like a brick shit house, and I’m a large chap.
- Looks pretty! Check out the brazed fork crown.
- Its pretty plain, and has nothing other than two braze-ons for a watter bottle. Perfect!
- It comes in Matt Black (or Blaque as Surly put it), which will look sweet with my purple tyres and chain.
- Its a little mix of old school and new school, which I think somes up fixies quite well.
- Ive not seen one about in my Bristol trekking, so hopefully will be pretty unique.
I finaly got him built on the 21st January 2010. Hes pretty. Take a look on Flickr.
