The CO2 Thing

In the final year of my degree (BSc Hons Web Design), I got the chance to develop a Digital Media Project. I decided to go for something a little out of my comfort zone, in a technology I knew little about. That project was “The CO2 Thing”, a game to try and teach children the dangers of rising CO2 emissions. The basic premise is simple. There is CO2 blobs flying out of the factory, and you have to knock them off the screen before there its too late. To make it a little more fun, the game uses a web cam to track the users movements.

Though never finished due to the time constraints of my course, the basic game principles are working, and allow you to play. If you hit the link bellow, you will be able to choose either the web cam or mouse version, and give it a go. The thing was designed and built by myself, with a lot of help from James Ede, flash developer extraordinaire. Its not to a professional standard by any means, but I’m pretty happy with what I was able to achieve, considering how little I knew about flash when it started. I think things like this prove that HTML5 wont kill Flash on the web by any means.
